Faith Engaged: NBCC Congress XI
So what is the National Black Catholic Congress and what happens there? Congress is a convocation of two to three thousand Black Catholics (laity and priests and bishops) from across the USA, Canada and Caribbean. For four days we come together to celebrate our Catholic faith in connection with our Afro-American ancestry, identity and culture.
God invites us to do greater works as we consider the needs of our time. Faith that is engaged recognizes that active disciples in the Church need to be renewed and alienated disciples need to be reconciled. All are welcome to experience deeper faith in Christ, actively following Him within the fellowship of the Church.
We invite you to join us for National Black Catholic Congress XI from July 19-21, 2012, as we reflect on our accomplishments while working together to press towards our future goals.

Purpose and Mission
The purpose of the Office for Black Catholic Ministries (OBCM) is to develop and provide leadership in establishing organized programs for the evangelization and outreach to the diverse communities of those Catholics of African decent within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
We are committed to improving the spiritual and social needs of Black Catholics and to foster an understanding and enculturation within the Whole Church of Detroit. To offer and share the Black Catholic gift of Blackness that God gave to the whole Church to go forth as Disciples of Christ.
Our mission is closely interrelated with the National Black Catholic Congress Office and other Offices of Black Catholic Ministry in other Dioceses within the United States.
Advisory Board
The Office for Black Catholic Ministries' advisory board collaborates and advises the Office and the Auxiliary Bishop to ensure that the church becomes relevant to the needs, concerns and hopes of black people. This office will endeavor to enlighten, instruct, and raise the consciousness of the broader church in order to promote unity, pride and understanding in the church and community.
Advisory Council
The Office for Black Catholics, together with the advisory council of Black Catholic Ministry supports the mission of the vicariates and believes that evangelization is the key to the church's future. The Office for Black Catholics is responsible for concerts and Liturgies celebrated in the black culture, social and cultural events, annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Mass and the Keep the Dream Alive awards, educational programs, youth activities, days of reflections, and continued work to end racism in our day.
