Purpose and Mission
The purpose of the Office for Black Catholic Ministries (OBCM) is to develop and provide leadership in establishing organized programs for the evangelization and outreach to the diverse communities of those Catholics of African decent within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
We are committed to improving the spiritual and social needs of Black Catholics and to foster an understanding and enculturation within the Whole Church of Detroit. To offer and share the Black Catholic gift of Blackness that God gave to the whole Church to go forth as Disciples of Christ.
Our mission is closely interrelated with the National Black Catholic Congress Office and other Offices of Black Catholic Ministry in other Dioceses within the United States.
Advisory Board
The Office for Black Catholic Ministries' advisory board collaborates and advises the Office and the Auxiliary Bishop to ensure that the Church becomes relevant to the needs, concerns, and hopes of Black people. This Office will endeavor to enlighten, instruct, and raise the consciousness level of the broader Church in order to promote unity, pride and understanding in the Church and Community.
